"The Titanic Sails At Dawn" by Mick Farren was first published in NME June 19, 1976, pp. 5-6.

This is now regarded as a somewhat seminal article that warned that a "back to grass roots" music scene was necessary in order to challenge the status quo of the rock dinosaurs and the increasingly stagnant music scene. That movement was already in its nascent stages and a few months later it would, as everyone now knows, explode into the national consciousness as punk.

Mick Farren, David Redshaw and Chalkie Davies check out the Wembley Country & Western Festival. "Boobs, Brandy, Boots, Bouffants, And Buffy" was first published in NME April 24, 1976. Funtopia has posted this as a companion piece, if you like, to Mick Farren's later country & western article "Live From Nashville: A Limey At Large In Music City USA" originally published in NME, November 13 1976.

Mick Farren - Sideswipe: New Face For UK Comics - Have You Noticed What Your Little Brother's Reading? Mick looks at the emergence of a new breed of ultra-violent UK comics, such as Action and the perennial favourite 2000 A.D.(then only about five issues old!). From NME April 16 1977.

Mick Farren on The Deviants, Fantasy Fiction and Blowing Shit Up by Erich Himmelsbach
Mick Farren's tribute poster to Elvis Presley from 1977

As a counterpoint to Mick's tribute we have posted a report by Mick from the NME in 1974 as well as a new link to comic strip story originally published in Rock 'n' Roll Madness Funnies comic book in 1973. These two examples give an idea of where Mick's head was at in the few years immediately prior to Elvis's death as it was becoming apparent that all was not quite right at Chez Graceland. Rumours were starting to abound and people were questioning the sanity of Elvis and his behaviour. In a somewhat tongue-in-cheek manner Mick Farren suggests There Is No Truth In The Rumour That Elvis Is Losing His Marbles.

The Vince Eugene Story, although a play on Gene Vincent's name, is undoubtedly a piss take of Elvis right down to Vince Eugene's country roots and the films with titles like 'Hula Heaven', and was written by Mick Farren and drawn by Dave Gibbons.
